Is Trent Alexander-Arnold fit to play for Liverpool this weekend? England star due to take captaincy in Virgil van Dijk’s absence

Liverpool are sweating on the fitness of vice-captain Trent Alexander-Arnold for their clash against Wolves this weekend.

The Reds defender has been nursing a hamstring injury during the international break that forced him to withdraw from England duty.

Alexander-Arnold sustained the issue during the 3-0 win over Aston Villa and went straight down the tunnel after limping off.

Speaking on the injury, Jurgen Klopp said: “I asked him and he said it’s (his) hamstring.

“Not too serious is his opinion, but we obviously have to wait for the scans. Then we will know more.”

Alexander-Arnold has since undergone the scan that ruled him out of England’s 1-1 draw with Ukraine, as well as their friendly with Scotland.

The 24-year-old is expected to pass a late fitness test to be included in Liverpool’s away trip at Molineux, live on talkSPORT.

Alexander-Arnold’s scan showed that his hamstring injury was minor and he was set to be sidelined for up to two weeks.

Klopp may have opted against risking the right-back in ordinary circumstances but a lack of defensive cover could prove pivotal.

He is already without captain Virgil van Dijk due to suspension, with Alexander-Arnold due to take over the armband once again.

Joe Gomez would usually be tasked with deputising at right-back, but the England defender is already being deployed at the heart of the defence with Ibrahima Konate still nursing a knock.

Liverpool allowed back-up right back Calvin Ramsey to join Preston North End on loan, while unorthodox defender James Milner left to join Brighton.

And Conor Bradley, who impressed on the right side of defence for Bolton last term, is also unavailable having suffered a stress fracture in his back.
