Future iPhone Ultra could take spatial photos and videos for the Vision Pro
Apple could be working on a future iPhone Ultra model which is capable of capturing spatial photos and videos for use on the Vision Pro.
According to MacRumors, a rumour shared by a reputable source on Weibo claims Apple is likely to release a future iPhone Ultra model after the launch of the Vision Pro. The iPhone Ultra is believed to “lead the market to rethink what kind of photos and videos a mobile phone should take”.
How do spatial photos and videos differ from regular photos and videos? Well, Apple says spatial photos and videos “have incredible depth that lets you see into a moment”. You also can “expand them to get even closer to your favourite memories”. For example, panoramas will seem to “wrap around you, making you feel like you’re standing right where you took them.”
Apple states the Vision Pro is its first 3D camera. But given that it’s not something you can just swipe out and take photos with, it makes sense for Apple to come up with a device that’s more convenient to use for taking spatial photos and videos.
This isn’t the first time that the iPhone Ultra appeared in the rumour mill. Earlier this year, Bloomberg reported that Apple has been discussing about adding a higher-end model to the top of its 2024 iPhone lineup. Dubbed the iPhone Ultra, it is expected to have an even better camera system, a faster chipset and a bigger display.
While that’s no doubt exciting for iPhones fans, the thing is that with the iPhone 15 lineup expected to see a price hike, we fully expect the iPhone Ultra (if it comes to be) to be staggeringly expensive.
