MEVEF foundation targets 1,000 youths for back to school initiative in 2023

As the number of out-of-school children keeps rising every day in Nigeria, a Non-Governmental Organisation, the Mayasalis Entrepreneurship and Vocational Empowerment Foundation (MEVEF), is targeting to bring back over 1,000 children to school before the end of 2023.
Speaking in Abuja, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of MEVEF, Salmat Salisu Musah, said apart from ensuring that the children go back to school, the Foundation also empowers them with a skill.
‘The focus is not just about school; we want to ensure that we are developing self-reliant individuals through vocational skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship”.
She said, “So we do this back-to-school scheme as an incentive to gain the attention of the children, but the motive behind the programme is to get the children secured with entrepreneurial skills.”.
Musah stated that MEVEF, in 14 years, has trained over 5,000 youths in different areas of skills, like the production of livestock feed for animals, soaps, and shampoos, amongst others.
“We have various skills acquisition programmes; we also serve as business development agents as well as mentors for these children,” she said.
In 2022, the Foundation enrolled over 300 pupils in schools across the Six (6) Area Councils in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Presently, MEVEF is in Edo State, enrolling children back to school and, at the same time, offering vocational training to the youths.
Salisu noted that the Foundation’s goal is to build a physical structure “where we can enrol people and train them in Vocational skills across the nation.”
