Leah McSweeney Opens Up About Lyme Disease Diagnosis and Seeks Support

‘RHONY’ alum Leah McSweeney reveals Lyme disease diagnosis, asks for ‘success stories of healing’ via Instagram Story with a screenshot of her test results.

Former “Real Housewives of New York City” star Leah McSweeney has bravely shared with her followers on Instagram that she’s been diagnosed with Lyme disease. The 41-year-old reality TV personality took to her Instagram Story to reveal a screenshot of her test results, expressing her shock and asking for success stories of healing from Lyme.

Leah McSweeney clarified that her diagnosis is of a new infection, not chronic Lyme disease, indicating that she likely recently encountered a blacklegged (deer) tick carrying the borrelia bacteria, which causes Lyme disease.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), typical symptoms of Lyme disease include fever, headache, fatigue, and a distinctive skin rash known as erythema migrans. If left untreated, the infection can spread to joints, the heart, and the nervous system, leading to more severe complications.

While antibiotic treatment is effective for most cases of Lyme disease, the CDC notes that around 5 to 10 percent of those diagnosed may experience prolonged symptoms such as fatigue, body aches, or difficulty thinking, even after treatment.

McSweeney’s disclosure shed light on her recent struggles, apologizing to friends she had canceled on due to feeling unwell in recent months. She shared a photo of 16 vials of her blood laid out on a counter, sarcastically noting that “everything is great” alongside the picture.

Despite facing health challenges, McSweeney has maintained her sobriety, marking an important milestone in her personal journey. However, her life hasn’t been without its share of drama. In February, she filed a lawsuit against Bravo and executive producer Andy Cohen, alleging exploitation of her alcohol issues for the sake of ratings on “RHONY” and “The Real Housewives Ultimate Girls Trip.”

In her lawsuit, Leah McSweeney accused Cohen of offering cocaine to certain talent in exchange for professional favors, a claim Cohen vehemently denied. Despite this, an “outside investigation” by the network found the allegations against Cohen to be unsubstantiated, leading to further contention between McSweeney’s legal team and the network.

As McSweeney navigates her health journey and legal battles, her openness about her Lyme disease diagnosis serves as a reminder of the importance of seeking support and sharing struggles openly, even in the face of adversity.
